MILLENNIUM KINGDOM USHERED IN – continued

REVELATION 20:4-11

As we get started today, we are still dealing with aspects of the Millennium Kingdom.  Also, in connection with the Millennium Kingdom, today we will see the release of Satan and things connected with that.  Further, we will examine the time of the judgment, etc.

This will be a fairly fast-moving study, which one will no doubt find interesting and helpful, as we continue our look forward in time.

We started our last study with some of God’s blessings [1-5] that one acquires at salvation.  Today let’s begin with the sixth blessing note [these have been compiled by Lewis Sperry Chafer and revised by R.B. Thieme, Jr].

6. Every true believer receives propitiation for sins (God is completely satisfied with the work of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ): (Romans 3:25-26; I John 2:2; I John 4:10).

7. The believer is dead to the old life (the old sin nature) but alive to God (retroactive Positional Truth).  He is …

a. crucified with Christ: (Romans 6:6l Galatians 2:20).

b. dead with Christ: (Romans 6:6; Colossians 3:3; I Peter 2:24).

c. buried with Christ: (Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:12).

d. raised with Christ: (Romans 6:4; Colossians 3:1).

8. The believer is free from the Mosaic Law. He is …

a. dead: to the law (Romans 7:4).

b. delivered: from the dominion of sin. (Romans 6:14; Romans 7:6; 2 Corinthians 3:6-11; Galatians 3:25).

9. The believer is regenerated: (John 3:10-16; I Corinthians 6:11; Titus 3:5).  He is …

a. born again – John 3:7; I Peter 1:23.

b. a child of God – Galatians 3:26.

c. a son of God – John 1:12; 2 Corinthians 6:18; I John 3:2.

d. a new creation – 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 6:15; Ephesians 2:10).

10. The believer is adopted by God (placed as adult sons because of Positional Truth):  (Romans 8:15; Romans 8:23; (Future) Ephesians 1:5).

As we move forward in our study of Revelation we will pick up at #11 statement in our next study and continue to add further blessings of salvation.  Please remember that there is only one source of salvation–the Lord Jesus Christ–and that comes by grace through faith, not by works (see Ephesians 2:8-9; John 3:16; Romans 10:9-13).  If one truly accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior then these wonderful, eternal blessings become theirs. God cannot lie and His “free” gift of eternal life is yours….if you want it!

Now let’s move to Revelation 20:8 and the subject of Satan.  When Satan is set loose at the end of the Millennium Kingdom, he will immediately deceive the nations.  Scripture tells us that everyone on earth during the Millennium Kingdom will not be saved.  There will be many whose hearts will not belong to Christ.  And please remember, Christ will physically be living in Jerusalem where His palace and rule will be centered.  Many will see and hear Him but the hearts of many will be hard toward Him (will not accept Him as Savior).

Don’t you wonder how this could possibly happen when the Lord Jesus Christ will be ruling for one thousand years, when He will personally guide the rebuilding of the world’s cities and bring peace and prosperity to earth.  The answer is the same as what is experienced today and has been experienced from the beginning of time.

Never forget that God’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, came to earth thousands of years ago, yet people not only rejected Him, many denied that He was God’s Son and they eventually killed Him.  But He rose again and returned to heaven where He is today at the Father’s right hand.  The Bible is clear, He is coming back to earth to rule in the millennium kingdom.

FACT:  Today, despite all the clear and unmistakable evidence, thousands will reject and deny Him.

Remember this also: the Millennium will be one thousand years long.  Think about it, one thousand years, that is a long time.  People around the earth, as we all tend to do, will begin to fall into a routine.  Year after year will pass, then decade after decade and century after century will pass.  Some people will not even meet Christ face to face.  They will not go up to Jerusalem for the great Feast of The Tabernacles (Zechariah 14:16-19).

NOTE:  As a result, what will happen will be just what has happened since Christ came the first time: people will begin to think of Christ in terms of a mere man.  To many people He will be only a human ruler.  And note how many will follow the deception of Satan: they will be numbered as the sand of the sea and millions will reject Jesus.

Note also that they are called by the name of Gog and Magog.  These are the names that symbolized the nations that came from the north to fight against God’s people.  Gog was the king of Magog (Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39).

Now move to Revelation 20:9-10.  Key Word: Satan.

The final armies of the world will be destroyed, and Satan condemned forever.  The nations will march against Jerusalem and the throne of Christ to take over the world for themselves (Revelation 20:9).

However, there will be no battle.  The nations of the world will misinterpret who Christ is; He is the Sovereign Majesty of the universe.  They will let the fact that He has come to earth throw them into thinking He is only a mere man as they are.  Boy are they in for a surprise….

God will intervene and cause fire to fall out of heaven and consume the armies of the world.  The devil will then be taken and cast into the lake of fire with the Antichrist and the False Prophet who had previously been placed there (Revelation 20:10).

NOTE:  They will be tormented day and night forever and ever.  You don’t want to join them in the lake of fire.  You can avoid Hell by truly accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior (see John 3:16; Romans 10:9-13; Hebrews 11:6).

“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41).

“For if God spared not the angels that sinned (Genesis 6:1-6), but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment” (2 Peter 2:4).

“And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day” (Jude 6).

“And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image.  These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone” (Revelation 19:20).

“And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet  are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever” (Revelation 20:10).

Now we are going to move forward to Revelation 20:11-15, the final resurrection and judgment of unbelievers:  The Great White Throne Judgment, Revelation 20:11-15.

The final judgment is coming, that great day when all unbelievers shall stand before God and give an account to God.  The final judgment is called the “Great White Throne Judgment.  If you are not truly saved, this is a picture of your final location–standing before God trying to justify why you had rejected His Son (Matthew 25:41-48), the only truly and living Savior.  Many today deny that this judgment will ever take place.   They smile and scoff at the idea that there is to be a future punishment for their sins.  They laugh at the preaching and teaching of hell. One day they will find out how wrong they were.

This Scripture stands opposed to these people.  This Scripture declares emphatically:  there is to be a final judgment for all unbelievers; every unbeliever, small and great, shall stand before God and give an account of their life before God. The declaration of God is that there will be a final judgment for all unbelievers, every unbeliever.  All unbelievers shall be judged and punished for their rejection of Jesus Christ and for their evil works upon earth. All Unbelievers shall be judged at the Great White Throne Judgment

Unbelievers shall stand before the very throne of God, face to face with God and the Lord Jesus Christ.  Standing there they will see exactly what John saw.  They will then know that their unbelief and rejection of Jesus Christ was madness and insane behavior.

OUTLINE OF REVELATION 20:11-15:

  1. The place of judgment: The Great White Throne (v. 11).
  2. The time of judgment: when heaven and earth flee away (v. 11).
  3. The persons to be judged (v. 12).
  4. The basis of judgment (v. 12).
  5. The Resurrection to judgment (v. 13).
  6. The terrorizing punishment of the judgment: the lake of fire which is the SECOND DEATH (v. 14-15).

Now let’s move to Revelation 20:11 – Key Word “Judgment.”

Fact:  there is a place of judgment clearly stated, it is THE GREAT WHITE THRONE OF GOD.  Unbelievers shall stand before the very throne of God, face to face with God and with Christ.  Standing there they will see exactly what John saw and then they will then know that …

  • their unbelief and rejection of Jesus Christ was mad and insane behavior.
  • they should have never rejected and cursed God and Christ.
  • they should not have lived for the pleasures and possessions of this world.  For God has said, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.  If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.  And the world PASSETH AWAY, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever” (I John 2:15-17).

Note:  As they stand there in front of the God of creation and the Lord Jesus Christ, face to face, they will realize that it is too late; their judgment is about to fall.  As they stand there they will realize that they could have received God’s free gift of eternal life while they lived here on earth, but they chose to reject God’s free gift of eternal life.  Instead, they chose to have the  pleasures of this world which was passing away (I John 2:15-17; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 3:16; Romans 10:8-9).

They are not standing before the Cross, where man can be forgiven because of the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.  They are standing now before God and His throne of judgment and they have no excuse that God will accept for how they have lived their life, apart from Him in disobedience.

They have lived a life of rejection of God’s only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, the only person through whom salvation must come in this earthly life if the Great White Throne is judgment is to be avoided.  How awful they must feel as they face the eternal lake of fire, which will be their place of inhabitation for all of eternity.  True salvation that only comes through the Lord Jesus Christ only takes a few seconds.  How easy it could have been while they lived in this life (John 3:16; Romans 10:9-13; Hebrews 11:6).

Note how the Great White Throne is described:

1. The throne of God is a GREAT throne. It is far, far greater than any judicial bench of any supreme court.  It is greater because of God Himself, the Sovereign Majesty of the universe, the creator and sustainer of the universe sits upon it.  When He speaks and issues a decision…

  • the decision is final.
  • the decision is for eternity, not just for a life term.
  • the decision can never be appealed, not even once.

BUT NOTICE THAT THE THRONE IS ALSO POSITIVE FOR ANOTHER REASON:  its decisions concern A GREAT SALVATION.  Everyone who stands before the great white throne of God has rejected the GREAT SALVATION OF GOD’S SON.  He has rejected the great free salvation offered by God; it is not just one of many ways to God, it is the only way.  The Throne of God reminds us that there is hope for the saved.

The salvation offered by Jesus Christ is free.  This is what makes the rejection of Jesus Christ so serious.  Jesus Christ is God’s only Son, God’s very own Son.  As good as the morality and teachings of some religions may be, there is only one Son of God.  God only has one Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Note:  Therefore, the only person who is ever acceptable to God is the person who approaches Him through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.  As stated, the salvation offered by Jesus Christ is the ONLY salvation there is; it is the ONLY WAY TO GOD, the only way to heaven.

Why?  Because it is the salvation of the Son of God Himself.  Therefore, it is THE GREAT SALVATION, the ONLY salvation that has ever existed or ever will exist.  Consequently, when it comes time to judge those who reject the GREAT SALVATION of God’s Son, they will be judged from The GREAT THRONE.

“How shall we escape, if we neglect so GREAT SALVATION;  which at the first began to be spoken by the LORD, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him” (Hebrews 2:3).

“See that ye refuse not him that speaketh.  For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him [the Lord Jesus Christ] that speaketh from heaven” (Hebrews 12:25).

 THERE IS NO ACCEPTABLE EXCUSE.

Now that we have spent some time looking at the results of living for the pleasures of this life in violation of I John 2:15-17 and arriving at the Great White Throne Judgment where there is no acceptable excuse for rejecting God’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, in this life, … how would you describe your life?

1. Obedience by accepting Christ as your personal Savior?

2. Disobedience by rejecting God’s free gift of eternal that comes ONLY through His Son???

Please go back through John 3:16; Romans 10:9-13; Hebrews 11:6; Ephesians 2:8-9 and if you have never truly accepted Christ as your personal Savior, maybe you are ready to reconsider and follow the path to heaven found in Romans 10:9-13.
