THE FINAL TRIUMPH: THE MILLENNIUM USHERED IN
Revelation 19:11-20:15 – PART TWO
NOTE: This study is not entirely original with me, much has been pulled from The Preacher’s Outline and Sermon Bible and other sources.
As we get started today, we are reminded of the fact that Jesus Christ is coming back to earth in all the glory and majesty of God.
- He is coming to eliminate all the ungodly and evil from off the earth.
- He is coming to establish rule and reign of God upon earth.
- When He returns the earth will be filled with the righteousness of God.
As we have already seen, when Christ returns there will be…
- no more sin or evil or unrighteousness upon earth.
- no more rejection or denial or cursing of God or of Jesus Christ.
- no more savagery or murder or war.
- no more sickness or disease or ill health.
- no more pain or suffering or death.
Why all the great blessings? Simple. Because Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is going to be ruling and governing the affairs of the world, not Satan, not false teachers, not angels, or men in general. Man, nor any false spiritual leader can produce and develop the perfect state and government. Only God can accomplish the perfect state and government.
NOTE: Remember, as we continue this study that Satan and his crew have to be removed from the earth. With the return of Christ, all that will be accomplished by the Lord Jesus Christ.
Now let’s return briefly to Revelation 12, and finish the names of Satan that we didn’t get to in our previous study.
Satan is called the power of the air.
“Wherein in time past ye walked [lived] according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:2).
Satan is also called the king of a kingdom.
“And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?” (Matthew 12:26).
“Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; and saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me” (Matthew 4:8-9).
Scripture states that Satan has his grip upon the whole world.
“And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness” (I John 5:19).
There is also the origin of the dragon or devil that we need to be aware of. Previously we were told that his tail “draws” (suri, present tense) a third part of heaven. That is, Satan draws, pulls and drags a third of the stars, that is, angels of heaven. Further, He did cast (ebalen) them down or threw them down to earth. This is past tense; that is, it tells us what Satan did long ago.
The point is this: today, in the present moment, Satan has authority over one third of the stars or angels of heaven.
- Where were Satan and the Angels cast down from? Heaven. They were the stars of heaven, but they were cast down from heaven. Satan’s name was Lucifer which means star of the morning.
- Satan was the anointed cherub who covered the very throne of God itself. He was the angel put in charge of the glory of God’s very own throne.
NOTE: Something happened; he did what so many people do, he began to look at himself and he began to want to live like he wanted instead of like how God wanted. He wanted to do his own thing instead of doing like God said (like Adam and Eve).
Therefore, he rebelled against God, and in his rebellion he led one third of the angel beings in heaven to rebel against God with him. Consequently, God had no choice but to cast him down from his exalted position in heaven.
NOTE: From what we can glean from Scripture, this is what happened to Lucifer [star of the morning]; this is how he became the devil, the arch-enemy of God (see Revelation 12:9; 2 Corinthians 4:4; I Peter 5:8; Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:11-19; Revelation 12:3-4).
NOTE: As we have seen, the aim of the dragon or devil is to devour the woman, to destroy Israel. This has always been Satan’s aim. Why? Because he is out to get back at God for judging him.
Satan wants to hurt God in any way he can. He wants to cut the heart of God. Of course the very best way to do this is to turn the hearts of people away from God and lead them to do evil and rebel against God.
FACT: Satan wants as many as he can get to follow his lead and to go through the wide gate of Matthew 7:13-14, which leads to hell.
Satan will attempt to convince people that the narrow gate, that road, is just too tough and will not give them much personal pleasure in this life…even though it leads to heaven. Remember, part of Satan’s attempt to hurt God is to deceive people. To make sure that they end up in hell along with him.
Now think back to the beginning when God promised to send the Savior to the world. When God first promised to send Christ to save the world, Satan knew it. Why? Because he was listening. He was the SERPENT who had tempted Adam and Eve and led them to sin and hurt God. But God loved Adam and Eve and wanted to save them from sin and death; therefore, God promised to send the SEED, the Savior of the world, who would crush the head and power of Satan.
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, between thy seed and her seed; and it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel” (Genesis 3:15).
As indicated before, Satan heard this promise from God. Consequently, he was bound to do all he could to delay the coming of the Seed, the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He, of course, knew what we know; no person or angel can stop God’s plan and His will.
However, Satan wants to get as many people as he can to sin and to turn away from God. In other words, he wants company with him in hell. Why? So that God’s heart would be cut and hurt. Further, He wants to delay his own defeat and the crushing of his head as long as he can. This is what is meant by this verse:
“The dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born” (Revelation 12:4).
This is how he wants to hurt God and stop his ultimate judgment. He attempted to do all he could to devour the child of the woman and stop the line of Israel. He did all he could to keep the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, from being born. However, now that Christ has come, Satan does all he can to turn people away from the judgment to come.
Even when people do repent and turn to follow Christ, Satan does all he can to turn the followers of the Lord away from Him.
NOTE: Remember: when a person truly does accept Christ as Savior, his or her salvation cannot be lost. However, Satan can still hurt God by causing His people to break fellowship and lose reward through disobedience.
This is the battle, the combat, the struggle that is going on behind the scenes in the spiritual world. And the war will continue on until the world ends (Ephesians 6:10-13). Tribulation is laying out the course of the world for us to see and it will intensify in the Great Tribulation.
During the great tribulation Satan will use all the resources that he has to attempt to destroy the “seed of the woman” (Israel and the followers of the Lord Jesus Christ). He will continue his war to hurt God in any way He can. God is not willing that a single person should perish and so Satan will attack any person walking with Christ. But the great news is that God has supplied the Christian with protection, if they are wise enough to follow Scripture (Galatians 5:16; Ephesians 6:10-18).
FACT: Jesus Christ was born or sent into the world to rule the world. He was sent by God to bring godliness and righteousness to earth, to use a rod of iron or judgment in order to get rid of sin and ungodliness in the world.
FACT: He did this by the Cross. Upon the Cross Jesus Christ made it possible for men to be forgiven for their sins and to stand before God–to stand before God free of sin. He did this by bearing the sins of men upon Himself when He died and shed His blood on the cross. He took the sins and the punishment of sins upon Himself. Therefore, man can be free of sin and acceptable to God–if he accepts Christ as Savior (John 3:16; Romans 10:9-13).
NOTE: Jesus Christ judged sin, condemned it upon the cross. Therefore, we can say that the rod of iron was used, first of all upon Satan when Jesus Christ died upon the cross. Jesus Christ judged and destroyed the power of Satan.
“Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out” (John 12:31).
“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil” (Hebrews 2:14).
“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it [the cross]” (Colossians 2:15).
NOTE: Jesus Christ will also use the rod of iron against the nations of the world–against all the ungodly and evil of the world–in the end time. Jesus Christ shall rule all nations and bring righteousness and godliness to this earth by exerting all the authority and discipline of God as needed. He shall bring the kingdom of God to earth.
“Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel” (Psalm 2:9).
“And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father” (Revelation 2:27).
“And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God” (Revelation 19:15).
NOTE: From the grave Jesus Christ ascended and was exalted to the throne of God. This is proof that He shall rule and reign and bring righteousness to earth.
“Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God” (Luke 22:69).
“And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the RESURRECTION from the dead” (Romans 1:4).
“Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 1:20).
“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under earth; and that EVERY tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11).
“Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him” (I Peter 3:22).
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this” (Isaiah 9:6-7).
Just a few more things about Satan before we get into the Millennium.
Revelation 20:2 – Good question, “For how long will Satan be removed from the earth?” The time is clearly stated: for one thousand years. This means a most wonderful thing: there is a period of history coming when there will be no more ungodliness and evil running wild upon the earth. This is the period of history that is known as the MILLENNIUM, the period when the Lord Jesus Christ will come to rule and reign upon this earth as Sovereign Lord. Scripture says the time will be one thousand years. Think how glorious this will be:
- No more war or killing will exist.
- No more assaults, abuse or crimes will go unpunished.
- No more hunger, homelessness or unemployment will exist.
- No more laziness, lethargy or unconcern will be allowed.
- No more drug-pushing or enslavement to drunkenness will be tolerated.
- No more evil, Period!
NOTE: All the wrongs and ills, evil and lawlessness of this earth will be removed. The perfect government and society–utopia and life will be brought to this earth. Righteousness–all things made righteous–will be established upon the earth for one thousand years.
Now notice again, Revelation 20:3. And the Bottomless Pit: This is where Satan is to be placed for the thousand years.
“And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high (Satan and the fallen angels and demons), and the kings of the earth upon the earth. And they shall be gathered together as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited” (Isaiah 24:21-22).
Revelation 20:3 Why is Satan to be bound and removed? The reason is clearly stated: so that he cannot deceive people and nations any more. Right now, sin looks good, tastes good and feels good. Think about the things that look good, feel good, and taste good:
*food *money *possessions
*sex *pleasure *stimulation of the flesh
*honor *power *popularity
*recognition *clothes *position
*vehicles *houses *comfort
None of these are wrong. They are necessary for life. But the passion and lusting after these things are wrong. Scripture says that Satan and his evil spirits are the ones who arouse these passions to lust within us. Satan is the evil force and power that arouses us…
- to lust after more and more food.
- to lust after another person.
- to lust after power over others.
- to lust after more and more pleasure and possessions.
- to lust after more and more position and money.
Think about what society will be like when Jesus Christ comes back to earth to bring utopia, the Kingdom of God, to earth. Think about the love, joy and peace; the self-control, discipline and personal strength; the cooperation, unity and oneness; the individuality, assurance and security; the purpose, meaning and significance people will have.
NOTE: When Satan is removed there will be no more deception of people or nations. There will only be a society in which there will be no need and no lack This is the reason Jesus Christ is going to remove Satan: He is the Son of God; He wants man to have the privilege of living in the perfect society on this earth and to do so while the earth is in its present created form.
If you would like to live in that society called heaven, you can! Please read John 3:16 and Romans 10:9-13 and consider what God has to say about “how” to go to heaven. It’s your decision…there is only one way and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ. May God bless you richly.
