REVELATION 14:9-12/14:1-20

Open Bible ministries of TN “STATEMENT OF FAITH”

  1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
  2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, and His ascension to the right hand of God the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
  4. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, personal reception of the Lord Jesus Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are essential.
  5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose cleansing and indwelling, the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
  6. We believe in the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  7. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
  8. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

FACT:  God always keeps his commandments.  A truly saved man believes God and he loves God; THEREFORE, he obeys God.  The proof that he loves God is seen in his obedience, Jesus said:  “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

Good question:  “Do you truly love Christ?”  You can evaluate your love of Christ by your own thoughts and actions.  Check it out:

*Do you love God enough to want to please Him [God]?

*Do you love God enough to want God’s approval of your life and your actions?

*Do you love God enough to want God to accept you, no matter what?

FACT:
You do please God by doing what God says in His Word?  So, the question is:  “Do you know enough of the Bible to be obedient to God’s desires and commands?”

FACT:  The Christian receives God’s approval and acceptance by obeying God’s Word – See Joshua chapter one for more important principles.  Example: Do you strive to keep the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20; Deuteronomy 5)?

FACT:  An obedient Christian dedicates his or her life to keep God’s commandments.

FACT:  In the end time [Tribulation Period], the obedient Christian, who loves God above all and everything else, refuses to accept the mark of the beast; he rejects the beast and follows God.  Therefore, as a truly obedient Christian, he or she escapes the coming judgment of God

FACT:  Even those who live in the Age of Grace [now] will fulfill all the above facts.

“Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21).

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and DOETH THEM, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.  And everyone that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it” (Matthew 7:24-27).

“Jesus answered and said unto him, if a man love me, he WILL KEEP MY WORDS: AND MY Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him (John 14:23).

“If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love….Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you” (John 15:10, 15).

“Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, ‘We ought to obey God rather than men’ ” (Acts 5:29).

“Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city” (Revelation 22:14).

THE OBEDIENT CHRISTIAN KEEPS HIS FAITH IN JESUS.

  • The obedient Christian believes in Jesus Christ, that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died for his sins; he never waivers in his faith in Christ.

+The true believer has, therefore, dedicated his life to FOLLOW Jesus Christ (Matthew 4:18-22).

+The true believer has cast himself upon and put his faith in Jesus Christ (John 3:16).

+The true believer has cast his life and destiny into the hands of Jesus Christ, God’s Son (Romans 10:9-13), not into the hands of the Antichrist and his government.

+Therefore, the true believer WILL ESCAPE the coming judgment of God (Ephesians 1:3-7).

“That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:15).

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, HATH EVERLASTING LIFE, and shall not come into condemnation; but is PASSED FROM DEATH UNTO LIFE” (John 5:24).

“Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live”(John 11:25).

“But these are written, that ye might BELIEVE that Jesus is the Christ [the Messiah], the Son of God; and that Believing ye might have life THROUGH HIS NAME” (John 20:31).

“For whatsoever is born of God OVERCOMETH THE WORLD: AND THIS IS THE victory THAT OVERCOMETH THE WORLD, even our faith.  Who is he that overcometh but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” (I John 5:4-5).

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, though shall be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 – New Creature).

NOW LET’S MOVE TO REVELATION 14:13.

In this study we will be considering ASSURANCE 5: The dead believer will be at rest and rewarded (Revelation 14:13).

FACT:  Everyone of us will die unless taken first in the Rapture.  In one way or another the day is coming when we will no longer exist here on earth.  We will be gone from the current earth forever.

  • Believers know this: This is the very reason that they are willing to SEPARATE THEMSELVES from the world and to live for Christ.
  • It is the reason that true believers are willing to give ALL they are and have to Christ and His mission.
  • It is the reason true believers do not live in sin, but struggle and fight to conquer the sins and temptations of this life.
  • It is the reason true believers refuse to deny Christ.
  • It is the reason true believers suffer the persecutions of this world; they suffer ridicule, abuse, mockery, strange looks, sneers, isolation, cursing and sometimes imprisonment and death (Luke 6:22-23).
  • True believers know that they have a date with death just as all other persons do (Hebrews 9:26-28).
  • Therefore, true believers give their lives to Jesus Christ.  Why? Because Jesus Christ is the Savior and Lord of the world (John 3:16; Matthew 22:37-40).
  • True believers know that Jesus Christ alone has died for their sins (Ephesians 2:8-10).
  • True believers know that the Lord Jesus Christ alone can free them from sin and its guilt and make them acceptable to God (Ephesians 1:3-7).
  • True believers know that Jesus Christ alone can give them the right to live forever.
  • True believers know, therefore, that they must commit their lives to follow Christ (Matthew 4:18-22; Romans 28:18-20; Acts 1:8).
  • True believers have the most glorious hope; God gives them the greatest promise imaginable (I Timothy 1:15-17).
  • God declares that the true believer shall live forever.
  • THIS IS THE FIFTH GREAT ASSURANCE:  the dead shall be at rest and be rewarded by the Lord Jesus Christ;

+Their identity: the dead WHO ARE IN THE LORD (Revelation 14:13).

+Their reward (Revelation 14:13).

TOPICS FOR STUDY:  REVELATION 14:13 – Dead – In Christ – Heaven – Eternal life.

FACT:  There are the dead who DIE IN THE LORD.

GOOD QUESTION: What does it mean to DIE IN THE LORD?

It means that when he was living, he/she believed in the Lord Jesus Christ (John 3:16; Romans 10:9-13; John 14:1-6) and followed the Lord with all his heart and life.  It means that he believed that Jesus Christ was the way, the truth and the life.  He also believed that no one comes to the Father except through Me [Jesus].  Therefore, when he faced death, he was IN THE LORD; He believed that Jesus was the only way, the truth and the life.  “No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6, NKJV).  When he faced death, he was “in the Lord Jesus Christ” (John 3:16).  He died being in the Lord.

NOTE THIS:  When a person truly believes in Christ,

  • God places and positions him IN CHRIST, in all that Christ is.
  • Christ lived and died and arose, so to be in Christ means that a person lives, dies, and arises in Christ.
  •  The person who believes in Jesus Christ is identified with Christ; that is, he is counted and considered to be “in Christ,” reckoned and credited with being “in Christ.”

MORE DETAIL ON THE SUBJECT OF BEING IN CHRIST:

  • The believer’s FAITH (Ephesians 2:4-10) causes God to identify the believer with Christ, to count the believer…

+as having lived IN CHRIST when Christ lived upon earth.  Therefore, the believer is counted sinless AND righteous because Christ was sinless and righteous.

+as having died in Christ.  Therefore, the believer never has to die (John 3:16).  The penalty and condemnation of his sins are already paid for in the death of Christ.

+as having been raised in Christ.  Therefore, the believer has received the NEW LIFE of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17-21).  Just as Christ had a new life after His resurrection, even so the believer receives the NEW LIFE of Christ when he believes in Christ.

To be IN CHRIST means that a believer walks and lives in Christ day by day (Ephesians 6:10-18).  It means that he does not walk after the flesh, but after the Spirit (Romans 8:1,4; Galatians 5:16).

It means that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, he should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world (Titus 2:12; I Peter 1:15-16).

It means that he bears the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

It means that he abides in Christ, that he becomes connected and attached to Christ (John 15:1-10 – vine passage)…

  • as members of the body are connected and attached to each other (I Corinthians 12:12-27).
  • as the branch is connected and attached to the vine, so are the Christians attached to Christ (John 15:4-7).

From this it is clearly seen that a person who IS IN THE LORD lives day by day for the Lord.  Therefore, when the day comes that he is to die, he does what he did the day before: he lives for the Lord right on through death.  He lives for the Lord while dying.  The day of death is but another day FOR LIVING IN THE LORD.  He is IN THE LORD whether living or dying.

Therefore, when he dies, the most wonderful thing happens to the believer: he never tastes nor experiences death. When the moment comes that he is to pass from this world into the next world, quicker than the eye can blink, God transfers him into heaven in the very presence of the throne of God (I Corinthians 15:52).

There is one other important and significant fact:  The person who dies in the Lord is declared BLESSED:  “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.”

This is the declaration of Scripture.

“For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s” (Romans 14:8).

“…to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God” (Revelation 2:7).

“Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them” (Revelation 7:15).

“Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city” (Revelation 22:14).

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will FEAR NO EVIL: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4).

“Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints” (Psalm 116:15).

“The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death” (Proverbs 14:32).

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.  Wherefore comfort one another with these words” (I Thessalonians 4:16-18).

If you are not saved [never having accepted Christ as your personal Savior] please read John 3:16 and Romans 10:9-13 and follow the road to heaven.  If you decide to do this, it is the most important decision you will ever make.
