Today we are still looking at the seventh trumpet and the judgment of God.  Specifically, Assurance 4, Justice Will Be Executed – Revelation 14:9-12.  We had been looking at four things that are said about the judgment of God.  In our last study we had briefly looked at the first principle:

1. The ungodly and evil will drink of the wrath and anger of God.

“The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation…” (Revelation 14:10).

In introducing this study, we are considering just how terrifying this passage is.  It is one of the most horrible pictures in all the Word of God.  It is the picture of the anger and wrath of God against the ungodly and evil of this world.  In the end time those who do not repent and turn to God will have the wrath of God fall upon them.

Those who are not moved by the sufferings and testimonies of God’s people—the millions who will be dying as martyrs for Christ—and those who are not moved to repent, will suffer the wrath of God.  This is the THIRD great assurance: God’s justice will triumph.

NOTE:  True justice will be executed upon earth.  All the ungodliness and evil and all the injustices of this earth committed against God and man shall be corrected.  True justice will be executed against all the ungodly and evil of this earth because the true God will be the One who is carrying out justice.  Note three things: we will see:

  1. The person to be judged is any person who follows the beast and receives the beast’s mark (Revelation 14:9).
  2. The picture of God’s judgment (v. 10-11).
  3. We will also see the person who escapes God’s judgment (v. 12).

Revelation 14:9-10 – Now we will look, in some detail, at the persons who will be judged.

First, there are the persons to be judged.  The judgment of God is going to fall upon all those who follow the beast and RECEIVE THE MARK OF THE BEAST – See Revelation 13:13-18 for more information.

NOTE:  This mark will show that a person gives his first loyalty and allegiance to the state and secular society and its leader, which is the Antichrist.  The person who declares his allegiance, who worships and puts the state and secular society BEFORE God — that is the person who will receive the mark of the beast.  NOTE 5 things:   He is the person who will be saying…

  • that God is second in his or her life, the Antichrist is first.
  • that the state and its leader [the Antichrist] is more important to them than God is.
  • that the state and its leader [the Antichrist] can do more for them than God can.
  • that society needs to focus first upon the state and its leader [the Antichrist], not God.
  • that the state and earthly leaders are the hope of man, NOT GOD.

Now surely you have looked around and have noticed that even in the age of Grace [today] that this attitude runs through society.  God cannot be happy!  In fact, it is a common belief that runs through every generation, that man can do more than God.

NOTE:  There are always multitudes who believe that man can control his own destiny, better than God.  To them what is important is good government, good education, good medicine, good social services, and on and on (it is really socialism in its most active sense).  All of these are necessary and free to everyone without cost to the individual.  In fact, we should diligently labor to have the best of everything: as long as it is free!  Man does not even have to work to have the best of everything.  However, in man’s view, these are not the end of life.  They can only make life comfortable and perhaps extend life for a little more time.   Some men seem to recognize that these things cannot help us beyond this life.  The fact is, only the true and living God can supply what man is searching for; man seems to recognize that he is not a god.  However, man believes that he should not have to work to have the best of society he can get.  It means that while they work for the good of society, they must honor and worship the state [the Antichrist] as god.  This is where so many have failed in the past and will fail in the end time.

NOTE:  The people of the end time will be making the same gross mistake so many in our generation are making; they will worship man and government and look to man and the government instead of looking to God.

The difference is this:  in order to hold the masses of people together in the end time, the government will officially insist that the first loyalty of its citizens be to the state.  RELIGION WILL BE SUBJECTED TO THE STATE AS WE SEE, EVEN TODAY, IN SOME AREAS OF THE WORLD.  The end result will be the massive slaughter and holocaust of all who refuse.  This is the reason THE WRATH OF GOD will fall upon the people of the end time.

(Revelation 14:10-11) – We continue with the ideas of Judgment – the true and living God, His wrath, AND include the idea of hell.

1.  The ungodly and evil will drink of the wrath and anger of God.  (v. 10)

“The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath OF GOD, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation…” (v. 10).

When thinking of the judgment of God, we must never forget a significant fact:  God MUST KEEP HEAVEN PERFECT and SINLESS.  When He creates the new heavens and earth, He has to exclude and shut out all those…(2 Peter 3:10-13)

  • who have cursed, denied, disbelieved, and rejected Him.
  • who are hostile and who are enemies of Him and His righteousness.
  • who do not want His control and restraint upon their lives.
  • who reject the righteousness of God’s Son and do not let it cover them (John 3:16).
  • who refuse to believe that Christ is the sinless Son of God who died for their sins (Romans 10:9-13, the road to heaven).

FACT:  Christian remember, God has no choice but to keep all these out of heaven.   Another fact to remember is that God has given every man a chance to get to go to heaven, but God must judge all sin.

“For God so loved the world [you], that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOEVER BELIEVETH in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life [go to heaven]” (John 3:16).

Every person who wants to go to heaven can.

“For by Grace are ye saved through FAITH; and that not of yourselves: it is the GIFT of God: NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

God has sent prophet after prophet and given man His perfect, eternal Word.  Most of all, He has given mankind His own Son to save man.  But man continues to reject and deny and even curse God’s own Son.

When the world does this to God’s Son, the only Son He has, what kind of attitude can we expect God to have in the day of judgment?  Soft and tender? Or angry and wrathful? We must never forget that God is not only [perfect love] but He is also just [perfect justice].

Just as His love has to be perfectly demonstrated toward man [by giving His only Son to die for man], so His justice has to perfectly demonstrated.  There has to come a day when God shows His perfect love to all those who trusted HIM BY MAKING A NEW AND PERFECT HEAVENS AND EARTH.

But when that day comes, He has to be just and exclude all the ungodly and evil.  If He were not just, then the new heavens and earth would be corrupted by the ungodly and evil who are let into heaven in their evil state.

Hebrews 9:27 – Death, Judgment

NEW HEAVENS AND EARTH            2 Peter 3:10-13

God is perfect love; therefore, He is going to give the believer a new world in which dwells perfect righteousness and love and joy and peace.  But to do this, the ungodly and evil of the earth must be judged and separated and shut out of heaven.

NOTE:  God has no choice but to execute perfect justice, wrath. God’s anger has to fall upon the ungodly and evil of this world.

  • The ungodly will drink the cup of God’s wrath; that is, the wrath of God will be drunk and will influence their whole being.   Not a moment of the ungodly evil people’s time will be free from the wrath of God.
  • The ungodly will drink the cup of God’s wrath without any mixture.  Nothing else will be mixed with His wrath, no love, no feelings of sympathy, no regret, no compassion.  The full wrath of God will fall upon the ungodly.
  • The ungodly will suffer a double portion of God’s judgment: the cup of His wrath and anger.  Note the verse carefully: both the wrath and anger of God will be served in the awful day of judgment.

“He that believeth on the Son HATH everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the WRATH of God abideth on him” (John 3:36).

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18).

“But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,” (Romans 2:8).

“Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience” (Ephesians 5:6).

“And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication” (Revelation 14:8).

“For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them”(Psalm 75:8).

“For thus saith the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished?  Thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink of it: (Jeremiah 49:12).

2.The ungodly and evil will be tormented with fire and brimstone. This is probably a  picture of Sodom and Gomorrah.

“…He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone…” (Revelation 14:10).

“The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.  Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah the brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;” (Genesis 19:23-24).

This is undoubtedly the most terrorizing judgment that has ever fallen upon the earth up to this time.  Men sometimes scoff at the idea of a coming judgment, and they doubt that two cities were ever destroyed as Scripture says that Sodom and Gomorrah were.  But several hundred years after the event, the LORD Himself confirmed the fact, and He declared that the same fire and brimstone were going to fall upon the ungodly and evil in the day of judgment.

“Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city” (Matthew 10:15).

“But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee” (Matthew 11:24).

“But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city” (Luke 10:12).

“But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all” (Luke 17:29).

Fire and brimstone is the picture of the hot flaming molten lava that flows from the mouth of a volcano that has erupted.  It is a terrible thought to think that a person would CHOOSE to spend eternity suffering as though he were caught in the bed of fire and brimstone.

THOUGHT:  This is a horrible picture, and it is not a pleasant thought, but we must always remember two things:

1. These are not the words of a preacher. They are the eternal words and warnings of Scripture.  Scripture is honest and true; therefore, there is only one place (Hell) that is like suffering in fire and brimstone.

NOTE:  This must NEVER BE OVERLOOKED:  Scripture does tell us.  Therefore, part of the judgment of hell will be just like suffering in fire and brimstone.

2. Today, right now, is the day of God’s love and grace. Therefore, man must cast themselves upon God’s love.  Man must heed the warning of fire and brimstone and repent from sin and turn to God.

“For God so loved the world, hat he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” John 3:16.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  For the scripture saith, whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” Romans 10:9-13.
