Let’s begin with a question,  “What does becoming a Disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ mean to you?”  Write out your definition of a disciple and what it is based upon:




Inasmuch as Jesus is the Master Teacher, how is it that we can set at His feet and learn what it is that He has to impart to us as His followers {disciples}?  Give a brief statement of your belief:                                                                                                                                                                  



The Bible is God’s Word and it is the revelation of God to man, the only Book that will lead man to God.  To set at the feet of Jesus and learn {discipleship} means that one  must read the Bible and accept it as God’s Holy Word, His revealed Truth.  YES/NO

  1. It is the inspired Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21)
  2. It is infallible.  (Psalm 19:7)
  3. It is inerrant.  (Proverbs 30:5-6)
  4. It is complete.  (Revelation 22:18-29)
  5. It is authoritative.  (John 20:31)
  6. It is sufficient.  (2 Timothy 3:15)
  7. It is the source of truth.  (John 17:17)
  8. It is the source of happiness.  (Proverbs 30: 5-6; Luke 11:28)
  9. It is the source of power. (Hebrews 4:12)
  10. It is the source of guidance.  (Psalm 19:7-8)
  11. It is the source of comfort.  (Romans 15:4)
  12. It is the source of victory.  (Ephesians 6:17)
  13. It is the source of salvation.  (Romans 1:16)
  14. It is the source of faith.  (Romans 10:17)

Question: Do you truly accept that the Bible is God’s Word?  One cannot say yes if they are not fully applying its truth to their life and living it.

  1. Are you carrying out the Great Commission?  (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8)
  2. Are you carrying out Christ’s new commandment?  (John 13:34-35)
  3. Are you carrying out God’s Command to live a holy life?  (I Peter 1:15-16)

In the Bible, Jesus said that to become a disciple one must comply with “…I am the way, the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.”  (John 14:6)  So,  what does that mean TO YOU?




To be a Disciple one must accept the following about God’s Son, Jesus Christ:

  1. That Jesus is God.  (John 1:1; Colossians 1:15-17; Hebrews 1:8-12; Revelation 1:8)
  2. That He came to earth through a virgin birth. (John 1:14; Matthew 1:18; Galatians 4:4)
  3. That He went to the Cross and shed His blood for you.  (Romans 5:6, 8,10)
  4. That He was resurrected and ascended to the right hand of the Father in Heaven and intercedes for those who accept Him as personal Savior.  (I Corinthians 15:20; Acts 2:30-33; 3:21; Philippians 2:6-11; Colossians 1:1-3; Romans 8:34, etc.)

Do you accept and believe the above?  YES/NO

To be a Disciple of Christ one must accept the following about themselves and Christ:

  1. All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God.  (Romans 3:23)
  2. All should receive the wages of sin which is spiritual death (Romans 6:23; but can receive God’s Gift of eternal life, if they desire it.)
  3. Head knowledge is not sufficient for salvation by itself because demons also believe that Jesus if God but will not be in heaven.  (Matthew 8:28-33; James 1:19)
  4. To be a disciple of Jesus Christ one must personally make a decision to trust in His life, death, burial and resurrection as the only way of salvation.  (John 6:14; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9-13)  What does this mean to you?




The word “disciple” is a term used consistently throughout the Gospels and the Book of Acts.  It is used to explain the relationship between the Lord Jesus Christ and the person who accepts Him as a personal Savior.  Answer the following two questions to the best of your ability, do not answer with what you think others want to hear:

  1. Do you know for certain where you will spend eternity?  In not certain, why not?  Comment:                                                                                                                                      



2.  If you were to die right now and stand before God and He were to ask you,    “Why should I let you into heaven?  How would you answer Him?   Comment:




It is expedient to define the word and so let’s consider the meaning.  The word “disciple” indicates “a taught or trained individual.”  Seen as also the relationship between the Lord Jesus Christ and one who is following Him in living a Christian life.  Jesus said:  “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  (John 8:31-32)  What does being a disciple of Jesus mean to you?




Have you been obedient and been baptized by immersion?  YES/NO    If not, why not?
